Nightmist made her way out of the warrior’s den, glancing around for her apprentice, Weaselpaw. He was only her apprentice for three moons, but she hadn’t felt as if they had much training time. She didn’t see that he was awake, so the black she-cat made her way towards the apprentice’s den. Poking her head in, she nudged her apprentice slightly. ”Weaselpaw, get up. We’re going to train. Come on.” she said softly, as not to wake any other apprentices. After all, it was still early, the sun was still rising.
Without waiting for any sign of movement, Nightmist stepped out of the apprentice’s den, and made her way towards the fresh kill pile. It was of a considerate amount, but Nightmist figured that she could get some hunting in with Weaselpaw after they finish their battling training. She wanted to see how Weaselpaw was now. He was far from being ready for becoming a warrior, but she was sure, he’d be a great warrior someday. After sending out a border patrol from the cats already awake, the black she-cat moved towards the entrance, making sure to leave some indication she had left in case Weaselpaw hadn’t seen her go.
She paused for only a moment before bounding away from the camp, towards Juniper Falls. It was an ideal place to teach apprentices; perhaps she could see if Firethorn needed some Juniper leaves, since she was going to be there anyways. Shaking her head from that thought, Nightmist entered the clearing near the waterfall. They would probably start with the basics, she needed to see how well he was improving from their first battle training session. She remembered evaluating him, and thinking about how she should train him.
Nightmist sat down, waiting for her apprentice to appear. It was time to take their battle training to the next step; maybe set up a mock battle between Weaselpaw and another apprentice. He most likely improved, but the she-cat figured he wasn’t ready to mock battle with her, not yet anyways. It would be difficult for Weaselpaw though, as she was blind in her right eye, and he was not. She was going to make up for it though; she’d teach him tactics that not many other BoulderClan cats knew, it’d be a surprise change for an opponent in another clan, one that could earn Weaselpaw the victory of the battle.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,384,true] | [atrb=background,http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu267/Winterfish_Summerswan/weaselmiddle.png] Sleep was peaceful, an escape from the general anxieties of life. There, he was safe in his own head, where no one could hurt him or taunt him..or treat him like he didn't exist, unless he wanted them to. And surely he didn't, seeing as he wasn't that kind of cat. He was in no way found of the way life was treating him. Safely, he was curled up next to Featherpaw, their nests so close together that if he stretched just a little, he would probably bump his friend awake. It had happened before, when an occasional paw flick or roll would bring her back to consciousness. He really did his best to stay still for her. She was another piece of security...at least when she wasn't awake..
because when she was, things became a never-ending rush to this place or that place, and whatnot. It wasn't much fun, but it kept her happy, and he would do what he had to to keep at least one cat on his side.
Speaking of sides....
Weaselpaw, get up. We’re going to train. Come on.
He felt a paw nudge his, and he opened dull-colored eyes to see a black-pelted form exiting from the den. His mentor's voice still rung in his head, and he would've hurried up..really..he would have, had he not had to worry about waking up the only on next to him. Slowly, he extracted himself from the nest, and cautiously padded out of the den to see that same form retreating once again. Lovely...He whispered, padding slowly across camp. Ears pressed back, looking around for anyone. He wasn't looking forward to training..he never really was, but he surely didn't want to talk to anyone. Thankfully, Nightmist had gotten him up early enough so that no one else was fully awake..or even awake at all, so he could sneak away in minimal peace. The moment he exited camp, he dropped as low as he could to the ground, yet still able to race through Boulderclan territory on the trail of his mentor. Every so often, the nervous and naggy brown tabby stopepd to hide behind something, tail twitching and ears still pressed back, until it felt "safe" to move again.
Eventually, he snuck into the clearing where she waited. If anything, he'd gotten better at moving through the territory. He'd been so slow three moons ago, too nervous and reluctant to take even a few pawsteps at a time. Which had, in a way, helped with tracking, because when no one wanted to wait for you, you had to find them by scent...
So, life did have it's benfits for him. Sometimes.
I'm late...not by much..but i am soo late. Slowly, he straightened up out of his crouched position, glancing around before looking over at...oh, had he kept her waiting long? He hadn't mean to..she knew that..yes...She would know he hadn't meant it.

"Oh..hmm..I’m here now?" the small black she-cat turned her head as she heard her apprentice’s mew. Nightmist purred, friendly, almost motherly. "Glad to hear, Weaselpaw." the deputy smiled almost encouragingly at her apprentice. Over the past few moons, Weaselpaw grew on her; and Nightmist wanted to see him rise to his full potential as a warrior; there was so much she saw in him. Sure, not many saw it, but that’s why Nightmist noticed it in the first place; Weaselpaw was an underdog; a little like how she was.
Many underestimed her because she was blind in her right eye; they thought she’d never make it as far as she did. She knew some still doubted her; whether it be from a different clan, or her own; they thought she’d never made it as Nightstar, but truthfully, she didn’t feel as if she were best for the job, and not just because of her disability. Deputy was high enough for her; leader, she was not ready for. And for that, she was glad BoulderClan had a strong leader like Raccoonstar; that only meant she didn’t have to worry about not being leader so soon. It was funny, how many looked forward to be leader; perhaps there was something wrong with her after all.
“So, Weaselpaw; we’ve been training for three moons. Today’s session will be much like your first. I want to see what you know now, ok?”
|
Nightmist then made her way towards the clearing near Weaselpaw. First they’d start with the basics. Just like their first training session; basics was the core of it. They practiced it like it was a life saver; and in the end, it really was, because without the basics, you knew nothing. Her mind then wandered back to their first training session; which was only the day after Weaselpaw got apprenticed. It was a difficult day, that was one thing for sure.
Nightmist had brought Weaselpaw out to that very spot; Juniper Falls, to see what he already knew, even if he was just apprenticed a day ago. “Ok, Weaselpaw; this training session will just be to let me evaluate where you are at. No judgements, no nothing. Just try your best, ok?” Nightmist called out, her icy gaze melting as she smiled gently, encouragingly at the young apprentice. Of course, she knew he was overlooked and overshadowed by many; at least, many cats made it seem that way. However, Nightmist saw an apprentice, looking for the attention he never had; an apprentice that had so much potential. She was going to help him, she promised herself she would. And not just as a mentor; as a friend, an ally; Nightmist was going to help Weaselpaw unleash that hidden potential everyone looked over. She’d make them think twice before disregarding Weaselpaw again. That was the vow she made herself those moons ago; and StarClan was a witness. She was going to go through with it; but first, she new she had to get Weaselpaw to acknowledge it first. And she didn’t know how long that alone would take. So, giving her apprentice a warm, encouraging gaze, she stepped back. The first thing they tested back then was his battle stance; not skills, but stance alone. Then they moved to the hunter’s crouch; just how he should move and crouch when hunting. They did an easy transition from there, into the hunter’s pounce, which he should now be able to do right after the crouch. She wondered how he had improved on all of it. “If you don’t remember, our first lesson was on the battle stance. And after that, it was the hunter’s crouch; then the hunter’s pounce.” Nightmist reminded the apprentice. She was almost positive Weaselpaw was either going to be worried about it all, like their first training session; or that he’d gain some self confidence. She wasn’t sure which her apprentice would go about doing; but she certainly hoped it was the latter. [ Word Count ] 659 [ Tagged ] Hedgie/Weaselpaw [ Notes ] Yeah, we could just give -ahem-make up-ahem- details from the first session as we go…

Under her encouraging smile, Weaselpaw smiled back..albeit with a nervous smile. It was enough, he knew that, to make her happy. Nightmist was a good cat, reallym and he liked her well enough. He just wished she would let him stay in campe..there really wasn't much point in him knowing this. It wasn't like he was ever going to need to know this with Featherpaw, and with their luck..they'd be somewhere else entirely during any sort of battle. The two of them just had that sort of timing..and he really didn't want to fight. He hated fighting..it made him want to hide, and he was accidentally pressing himself backwards into the brush that sourrounded their training space.
“So, Weaselpaw; we’ve been training for three moons. Today’s session will be much like your first. I want to see what you know now, ok?”
Probably not much. He muttered, keeping his voice low and not making eye contact with the black she-cat. I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you. He glanced up, hoping she hadn't really heard him because she had moved close and ohgeezethatscaredhim. Why did she have to do that? She'd done it their first session, too; startling him like that. He'd been even worse then, he could remember it.
It had been so terrifying, he remembered. So big and open and unsafe. It couldn't be good out here, depsite everything Featherpaw had told him. she was kind of crazy anyway...she was probably lying to make him feel better. There was this new cat...he really didn't know Nightmist yet, and she scared him. Everyone scared him, though..they could be so mean. He'd been thinking, frightened and shaking, when she'd turned to him. Talking. It sounded so loud to him then... “Ok, Weaselpaw; this training session will just be to let me evaluate where you are at. No judgements, no nothing. Just try your best, ok?” He'd told her not to get her hopes up..a common repsonse to her obvious hopefullness that he would succeed. There wouldn't be much to evaulate, he knew that from the start. he had tumbled and bumbled around that clearing, nervous and feeling like an obvious failure. It was useless, but she wouldn't let him give up. He respected her for that, but sometimes..he really just wanted her to leave him alone.
Three moons later, and they could actually make it through a training session without the dull-coated tabby freaking out too much. He still had his moments, quite often, but they weren't as bad as they had been. “If you don’t remember, our first lesson was on the battle stance. And after that, it was the hunter’s crouch; then the hunter’s pounce.” He slid into a twitching stance, trying his best to keep his tail still and his heartbeat down. As smoothly as he could, he dropped down into a crouch, parallel with the ground. He looked up at night mist for her approval before leaping forward. On the landing, the tom stumbled and landed chest-first on the forest floor. He leapt up, glanced around the clearing with wide eyes, pelt puffed out. It never went fully flat, and he ducked his head in embarassment.
Berrypaw was probably already way ahead of him..he knew it. He was so far behind in all this.
It wasn't fair..but life never really was.
