A small snowy she-cat looked around camp. It was midday, so everyone was active. The warriors were walking around camp, some leaving, some returning from patrols. The fresh-kill pile was fine; seeing as a hunting patrol had just returned. Tilting her head, she watched as the warriors shared tongues, and her ears flattened slightly. She wanted to be able to share tongues; to be able to have a conversation with another cat. Even if for a little bit; she wanted to be able to hear. Being deaf was a disadvantage; and she felt like the clan thought they'd be better off without her. Especially her newly named mentor, Blazeheart.
Watching the other apprentices converse and hang out made the small snowy she-cat feel left out. So, she made her way through camp, a hop in her step; excited. Really though; she was feeling down, she'd never get the chance to hear anything. Dapplefur would always be looking towards the stars, StarClan lay up there; it was the only place she knew she would be able to hear. Maybe Dapplefur was wishing to StarClan to give her her hearing back...but if worse comes to worse, she was wishing StarClan would take her painlessly.
Sure, Dapplefur would always coddle her and shield her from the world; but Snowpaw knew, she felt it, that she wasn't the kit Dapplefur wanted. Her mother wanted a kit she could talk to; one she could have meaningful conversations with. One she could tell she loves and hear it back. Snowpaw could only communicate through body language; and it was difficult, trying to understand some things. She could speak, yes, but it was a soft, almost delicate mew. Like she didn't know how to talk.
Her paws guided her towards the border; a place she knew she shouldn't be. After all, how should she hear a warning or hear cats coming? What if she ran into a rouge here? Snowpaw felt lost though; she tried to backtrack, but a new scent filled the air. With her deafness, her eyesight and sense of smell improved. It confused her; she'd never scented it before. Probably the other clan, but which one? She didn't know; it was her first time out of camp really. Dapplefur must be worried out of her mind for her.
Pausing, as her eyes spotted some movement, Snowpaw slowly crept forward, unaware that she was nearing the border. Prey! It was only then, that she realized she was near the border; and she couldn't figure out how to get back. Trying to follow her own scent; the other scent seemed to overcome it; seeing as she was practically at the edge of the border. She turn-tailed and moved back into BrookClan territory though, and watched as the mouse sat openly on the other side of the border. She glanced both ways, but she couldn't tell if any cats where hiding there or not. With a frustrated sigh, Snowpaw just sat down and looked at the mouse, as if waiting for it to cross the border. And that's exactly was she planned on doing.
