The large black she-cat padded down the hillside. She wasn't sure what she was in the mood for, but for the moment it seemed that all was pretty peaceful. Her green eyes glittered in the sun as she looked up mometarily. No cares in the world as of yet. No apprentice had been assigned to her and there seemed to be no troubles with the other clans so Blackhawk had nothing of importance to do for a few days at least. Her mind followed its own trails as she slunk through the grass in silence.
Knowingly, she crouched down as she heard a disturbance up ahead. It was too small to be another cat and yet not the right sound to be a snake. Others had said that lizards were good hunting around here and she had a feeling that was what it must be. Slowly, stepping forward she peered through the grass. She caught a flash of green and then her prey was on the move. Blackhawk moved like lightning as she bound after her prey. With a swipe of her paw, the lizard went tumbling. Before it could recover its senses, the black she-cat sprang upon it and ended its life. Gently, she looked at the sky and thanked the Starclan for sending her food before digging into her food.

A bird, a small, newly full grown bird, was chirping away, singing to the trees around it, oblivious to the shadow-like figure behind it. When it finally took notice, however, it was too late. The shadow-like figure shot out and as quick as it began, the hunt was over. The bird lay dead, in the paws of the small, black she-cat. Nightmist purred and thanked StarClan for the bird, before burying it to retrieve for later. Sure, hunting patrols were out, but there was no such thing as too much, was there? She figured if there was, she could always eat the bird herself, but she doubted that. The BoulderClan cats were big, save for the few like her, and many of them had an appetite to match. So either way, it really was fine.
The small deputy made her way over to an average sized rock, before laying down for a while. The bird was a lucky catch, considering where she was. In fact, she hadn't planned on catching it; but it just turned out that way. The bird was young though; kind of like an apprentice, or a newly made warrior. They know the rules, but insist on breaking them because they have their warrior names. At least, some cats thought that way; but hey, look at what happened to the bird. Mouse-brains.
Nightmist glanced at the clear blue sky above her; Silverpelt wouldn't show for a while; and she needed to be with the clan, in case something came up. It was part of being a deputy; but she didn't complain. So long as her clan was well-fed, safe, and healthy, then she'd take time away from her leisure-time any day. Nightmist sat up and stretched; the warmth of the sun on her back. Being a pure black she-cat, Nightmist stood out against the pale rocks easily. However, since she already caught a few prey before the bird, she felt as if she was good to go.
Deciding to stay for a little while, since there seemed to be nothing going on, Nightmist laid down once more, basking in the sunlight; relaxing with the warmth of the sun on her. Times like these were rare for a hard-working deputy, so she figured she would relish and cherish it whenever she could.
Plus, it was times like these that she could have time to think about, well, everything. Her thoughts usually ranged from her deputy duties, to the clan kits. Today, however, her thoughts went to something it rarely went to, unless it affected the clan. Other clans. Thinking about BoulderClan, Nightmist felt small besides many of them; sure, she'd be small beside many others as well, but in BoulderClan, there were some that doubted her. She knew it; it was either because her blindness in her right eye, or her small stature. Either way, she felt...isolated at the time. That was the main reason she came out to hunt, to try and get rid of those thoughts.
Apparently, it didn't really work out as well as planned. Nightmist shook her head and laid it on her paws, looking at the sky with a slightly lost expression. She was the deputy, she shouldn't be doubting herself like this. It wasn't like her, but then again, sometimes even she becomes sad. Nightmist blinked, thinking, and looking into the distance that was the endless sky. Her ears pricked at a familiar sound; a rustling, but thudding; as if it was a cat hunting. She made her way towards the sound, only to find another warrior, Blackhawk, there, with a freshly caught lizard. “Nice catch, Blackhawk.” The small deputy made her way towards the larger black she-cat.

Blackhawk set the lizard down lightly and gazed at the deputy. "Thank you, Nightmist. It was really nothing special though." The lizard was average sized at best, and it had been a spur of the moment thing. Blackhawk wasn't really sure what to say to the deputy, after all, she didn't really know her. "What brings you out here?" She muttered trying to make conversation and be polite though she'd much rather be chowing down on her lizard at the moment. However, she had been taught that it was impolite to eat in front of others. THat and it wasn't like the lizard was going anywhere. It was dead after all. As she awaited the deputy's answer, she nudged the dead being with her foot and looked around.
Blackhawk began to ponder what had brought her out here in the first place. Usually, she was quite happy to stay by herself, but she had almost come looking for company today. Blackhawk pondered why she had come looking for company but yet had not just gone to the warrior's den to seek out company. Shrugging mentally, she figured that she hadn't been so certain about company.

The deputy smiled, as the larger black she-cat put down her prey. “Just because something is not special, does not mean it is not good.” the small black she-cat hadn’t meant to sound as if she were scolding or chiding an apprentice; so she smiled kindly, as if to show she meant no harm by the statement. Nightmist glanced once at the lizard, before sitting down; her paws were aching a bit after all the hunting that was done. She already had her fill anyways; before she had caught that last bird. Blackhawk must’ve been about to eat the lizard before she interrupted. How rude of her.
|
'How rude of you Nightmist. You should’ve realized.' she inwardly chided herself. As deputy it was part of her duty to make sure everyone was fed, the patrols were sent out and to, if need be, keep everything in check, leader included. She was glad it never came to that though; Raccoonstar always had things under control; she was just second in command."What brings you out here?" Nightmist’s ear twitched slightly at the question. What was she doing out? Perhaps it was to hunt, but she knew that wasn’t it. She had come out to think, but had caught prey along the way. Her tail swished around, before wrapping itself around her paws. “I guess I just needed some thinking time. Could I say the same for you?” the black she-cat turned towards the other black she-cat, her blind eye seemingly searching through any secrets Blackhawk may hold. “I guess I got sidetracked by hunting though; I have a few buried prey to pick up on my way back.” The small deputy smiled, turning her gaze to the sky. It was a beautiful day out; and the prey seemed to be walking in one’s open claws. However, she hoped it didn’t mean to compensate for anything bad that should happen anytime in the future. “You may eat if you’re hungry, you know. I already had my fill earlier. I won’t mind at all.” Nightmist smiled at the older warrior; perhaps this would be a good time to get to know her better. [ Word Count ] 358 [ Tagged ] Blackhawk/mikko & open [ Notes ] nope.

Blackhawk smiled delicately at her deputy's comment about her catch being good. She happily took the praise but didn't want to seem conceited. This was a new home for her and therefore she was working hard not to seem as if she thought of herself too highly. Though she regarded herself as a good warrior, Blackhawk was very aware of her own shortcomings. Including her inability to maintain friendships.
"Very much the same. I felt the need to walk the lands and straighten my thoughts. The lizard was just unlucky enough to cross my path when I was slightly hungry." Blackhawk muttered with a bit of reverence. She really had wanted to straighten out her thoughts, but she was always in the mood for company. Though Blackhawk made a rule of not getting into the business of others, she very much liked hanging out with others.
Blackhawk dipped her head at Nightwish and began to eat. Though she wasn't starving, it was time for her lunch. Swiftly yet with surprising grace, the larger black cat slirped down the lizard and licked her paws as she finished. It was a routine she had developed whether it was odd or not. She was enjoying the small conversation that she and Nightwish were having. "Well, would you like for me to help you take the prey back to the others?" She asked with a slight head tilt.

Nightmist smiled as Blackhawk accepted the praise, without feeling offended or anything. She didn’t know the she-cat very well, but Nightmist had hoped that perhaps she could use this time to get to know Blackhawk. She took pride, as deputy, in knowing what type of cats her clanmates were; how she knew to deal with them, and what to say and do. Blackhawk, however, she didn’t know yet; so she hoped that could change by this chance meeting.
"Very much the same. I felt the need to walk the lands and straighten my thoughts. The lizard was just unlucky enough to cross my path when I was slightly hungry." Nightmist nodded; understanding exactly how Blackhawk had felt. Then a sudden thought occurred to her; what if she was interrupting that? Blackhawk could very well be polite because she was deputy; but that didn’t mean she might not want her time to think. Nightmist knew how she felt at times when she couldn’t straighten out her thoughts. Then again, as deputy, Nightmist wanted to be able to help her clanmates; even in simple everyday problems. It was her duty as deputy to make sure everything was ok; and besides, they were her clanmates. "I apologize, then, if I am disrupting your time alone."
|
Nightmist bowed her head in apology; she hadn’t meant to, really; it was pure chance she stumbled upon Blackhawk. "Well, would you like for me to help you take the prey back to the others?" Nightmist nodded her head in thanks, though she hadn’t expected for Blackhawk to offer her help. "Yes, that would be helpful; thank you." Nightmist smiled. It would be like a hunting patrol; which she, herself, had to go on. However, with the prey they were to bring back, as well as the prey the hunting patrols already sent out brought back, the clan would be well fed for the next couple of days; at least, until the fresh kill is not so fresh anymore. Still, there was plenty of time to get back; and nothing was going on at camp, not when she left. So, deciding to stay and chat a little more with Blackhawk, Nightmist didn’t make a move to get up. She’d do a border patrol around the territory later to make it up. "Perhaps it could wait; there was already a couple of hunting patrols sent out this morning. " It wasn’t as if she was feeling lazy or anything, but she didn’t want to go back to the camp yet. She was enjoying the quiet and the conversation she and Blackhawk were having. And so, Nightmist just continued on with the conversation. "How was you day so far, Blackhawk? Good, I hope."[ Word Count ] 450 [ Tagged ] Mikko/Blackhawk [ Notes ] N/A

"You aren't disrupting my time. Its good to have company once and awhile. We all roam this land so alone most of the time." A small smile creased Blackhawk's face. Most thought that since she would rather be peaceful, Blackhawk didn't like company but that couldn't be further from the truth. "No need to apologize." Blackhawk was a little embarrassed at how the Nightmist was acting.
It seemed that the deputy couldn't make up her mind as to what she wanted to do. First she invited Blackhawk to join her and then suddenly she was saying it could wait. Blackhawk wasn't used to such confliction over such simple matters. It seemed to Blackhawk that it should be either yes or an easy no.
Silently, she contemplated the deputy's question for a moment. "It has been a good day. Starclan has smiled on me by sending me food and a companion. That makes it a good day." She muttered with a smile. "Though I guess I should go back soon and meet some more of the other clan members. "How is your day going, Deputy?" She asked as she stood up. She was serious about going back. She wished to make more friends.

Nightmist smiled. She had gone for some time to think, and had gotten some hunting done during it; she didn’t expect to run into Blackhawk though. The warrior was doing the same, but Nightmist was glad to have found that she didn’t mind her company. "You aren't disrupting my time. Its good to have company once and awhile. We all roam this land so alone most of the time" Nightmist nodded, glancing up at the clear skies as she did. It really was a nice day to share tongues; and apparently StarClan thought so to, as she was sure they wouldn’t have had met if both hadn’t decided to go to the same place for some alone thinking time.

"No need to apologize." Nightmist smiled slightly; she wasn’t sure of how to act around Blackhawk just yet, after all, they had only just started to talk. "Oh, I apologize if I’m not making any sense," Nightmist apologized, realizing that she had just contradicted herself in her statements. "I just think it is a good day to share tongues is all. Wouldn’t you agree?" Besides, they had only just begun to talk. Nightmist didn’t want to end their conversation so soon.
Nightmist smiled at Blackhawk’s answer; all was well then, that was good. The black she-cat paused at her clanmate’s question. So far, she hadn’t a complaint about it, so it was good. "Well, my day has been fine as well." As Blackhawk stood up, Nightmist had as well. "Shall we go gather the buried prey then?"

"It's always a lovely day to have a conversation with someone such as you, Nightwish." The large black female wasn't just saying that either. She preferred to slowly get used to a situation and she did currently enjoy the deputy's company. She would have said so, if she thought the deputy was bothering her. At the moment, Blackhawk really didn't have much to think about. THe Clan was pretty stable, she had no mate, apprentice, or kit to look after so her duties were slim. To her, even helping bring back food would be a welcome relief to the monotony of her days so far. It seemed that there wasn't much for the female warrior to do.
"I think we should." She looked to the sky which was beginning to darken. "The light is fading and I'd hate to make the climb back down in the dark, especially when there is no need to." Blackhawk didn't want to sound scared, she just didn't see a point in taking wanton risks. Carrying food down the hillside could be precarious enough, without the added risk of doing it without being able to see clearly.
