Emeraldheart's optics peered down from atop the rolling hill. The eyes of the feline followed the long stream all the way until it disappeared between the growing tufts of golden grass. The wind rushed across the landscape making the grass from up there look like a golden sea. The fronds licked at the cloudy blue sky, glistening in the sun rays. Making it look like some kind of holy landscape only seen in that of Starclan.
"Majestic.." She clawed at the ground and sat dainty on her haunches. Tail wrapping around her paws. As a kittypet the only truly beautiful landscape she would see we're the freshly blossomed bushes in the yard her and her siblings would play in. But now she could enjoy the true beauty nature could offer out here in the open meadows, viewing all from atop the hill. Sitting high like a queen on top of her perch, grazing upon all the land that was precious to her majesty.
Her attention was drawn to the stream and the land across it. Even though odd for her species Emeraldheart enjoyed the water. And it looked all to welcoming from up there. With the humidity and the sun getting to her. She decided that it would be a good idea and slowly but surely she padded down and stepped into the rushing water. Feeling the smooth stones beneath her paws push away. The frigid yet reassuring water sliding all around her.

A large, muscular tom was making his way around BrookClan territory. The short-tempered dark colored tabby was just venting out some issues with his littermates. This time, it wasn’t Dawncloud he snapped at, but Jayflight. If one were to have been there, they would’ve seen Jayflight storm off in the opposite direction. He had began the fight after all; but no blood was shed, just some…rough-housing. Dawncloud was the one who broke the two brothers apart luckily enough; as Owlclaw was sure they would’ve been in deep trouble. Not like he was looking for trouble anyways, like Dawncloud accused; trouble just seemed to…happen. Not his fault…ok, not entirely his fault.
So, the sulking, yet angry tom made his way over to the stream, the one that separated BrookClan from GoldenClan. Owlclaw was very glad to not have been in that clan; it would’ve been horrible, given his, yes he admits it, short-temper. He’d be fighting with one of those overly accepting, annoying kitty-pets everyday of his life. He was sure he’d be a rouge, or maybe in another Clan, BoulderClan maybe, at this point in his life. Who knows, they could’ve named him something else as he became a warrior; he couldn’t think of any other name he’d prefer over Owlclaw. It just seemed to fit him.
However, as he was padding over towards the stream, he noticed a figure, in the distance; another cat, on the GoldenClan side of the border. It was headed towards the stream; BrookClan territory!
|
'Heh, finally, something to vent out on. A fight!' he thought, excited at the idea of a battle. Whenever he was in a bad or angry mood, he was in a fierce mood, destroying anything and everything that he could. Fighting a cat was his favorite; not like he was battle hungry or anything; it was just his favorite way to vent for some reason or another. Even he couldn’t explain why. He padded down, stepping into the stream across from a brown tabby she-cat. GoldenClan. "Hey! She-cat! Your trespassing on BrookClan territory." Owlclaw unsheathed his claws, digging them into the rocks beneath his paws as he moved deeper into the water, so it was just brushing against his underbelly. He’d give her a fair warning, but if she didn’t move out of BrookClan territory, he was sure there would be a fight. And he anxiously awaited it. “If you don’t move out of my territory; then I’ll make you.” Owlclaw growled, his green eyes piercing into the she-cats own. [ Word Count ] 417 [ Tagged ] Wolfy/Emeraldheart [ Notes ] This’ll be interesting. xD

The she-cat waded in the shallow part of the stream. Her eyes flicked from viewing a flock of birds flying by to the water. Noticing all the colors that rushed on by her paws. How the sun reflected on it or how the lapping of the small waves against the rocky shore sounded. Mother nature's living orchestra of sound, sites, and even smells. She wondered to herself how anyone couldn't be out here enjoying everything the outside had to offer by her side. Though maybe that thought had been to soon. Considering a muscular tom came walking from the more shadowed parts of the grass. The duller less vibrant grass that faded into Brookclan territory.
"Hey! She-cat! Your trespassing on BrookClan territory."
Emeraldheart looked at him momentarily lost in her own train of thought while examining him. 'Oh boy, another ill tempered male..' The thought ran through her mind. The worst way to approach these types was with an attitude. Since an attitude usually led to a fight and that is what most of them lived for. Not that she didn't care for a good spare but small border skirmishes could always lead to something bigger. And she could never live it down if it blew out of proportion.
“If you don’t move out of my territory; then I’ll make you.”
The she-cat nonchalantly turned away and slowly slinked closer to Goldenclan's side. Gently flicking his nose with the tip of her tail.
"Put those away, tom. No need for senseless violence. I stole no prey, I hurt none of your clan mates. Just a quick dip in the water, is all," She same, smiling a bit. Emeraldheart climbed onto a slippery stone and sat there, blinking. ",Better now?"

When the she-cat turned away, Owlclaw almost felt angry; he needed something to vent on. However, what he didn’t expect was the brown tabby walking away from him. She was smarter than he originally gave her credit for; she hadn’t fallen into his threats with more threats of her own. He was oddly…almost disappointed. When he felt her tail flick his nose, he growled; a clear warning to the she-cat. 'Don’t you ever do that again' his green eyes glared into her own, portraying the message clearly. Still, as she spoke, he began to feel guilty. It was true; he had gone looking for a fight, only to pick a she-cat who isn’t giving him a reason to. Of all times!

"Put those away, tom. No need for senseless violence. I stole no prey, I hurt none of your clan mates. Just a quick dip in the water, is all,"
Slowly, Owlclaw backed away, until he reached land on the BrookClan side. Instead of turning and leaving, however, he sat down, staring at the brown she-cat on the other side. Part of his wanted to glare; but the other part, the part the always won sooner or later, wanted him to apologize. He didn’t want to be mean and angry all the time…it was just…natural. Turning his head away, he avoided eye contact with the she-cat who refused to fight him. Apologizing to a she-cat was bad enough; but to one that was in a different clan?! That was unheard of; he almost didn’t want to--almost--but since she had indeed stepped out of BrookClan territory and had not fought him, he thought she deserved at least an apology if anything. "Better now?""I apologize for my…temper" was all he could manage out. Though it was through clenched teeth, it sounded at least partially genuine and it was audible from where the she-cat sat. Still, he didn’t up and leave; instead just choosing to stay there; seeing as he had no where else to go at the moment. "Still, crossing into another territory, even if you‘re doing nothing wrong, is not good." he stated, wrapping his wet tail around wet paws. Everything but his back and head was wet; but he was fine with that. Speaking of wet; why didn’t the she-cat mind getting in the water? Surely GoldenClan disliked getting their fur wet; but perhaps this was one of those strange she-cats. Yes, Jayflight told him she-cats had a tendency to be strange at times. Maybe this was one of them. [ Word Count ] 416 [ Tagged ] Wolfy/Emeraldheart [ Notes ] This’ll be interesting. xD

Drawing a freshly licked paw over her back ear, Emeraldheart began contorting her body to wash herself. Best not to waste her time by not doing something constructive. And bathing was all that she could think of at the moment. Besides her fur always felt nappy and clumped after a dip in the water, and any she-cat could agree that a dirty pelt was never fun to deal with.
"I apologize for my…temper"
Emeraldheart couldn't help but turn away and smirk to herself. How low the tom must feel now. Stooping to such a level that he must've felt as low as the dirt he trotted upon. A male usually of an uncontrollable temperament hated apologizing and he probably felt like it. Treating it more like an unfair punishment that anything else. She would know - her brother Hawkpaw was the same way. The resemblance between the tom and her old brother was even striking. Maybe that is why she felt calmer around him.
"Still, crossing into another territory, even if you‘re doing nothing wrong, is not good."
"It's all fair play, tom. You were just doing your job as a warrior, that's all. I respect that. Sides' we're all warriors here right. Abiding by the code and all," She piped in between licks. ", Hope you don't mind me freshening up. That water does a number on a pelt. Heh, or atleast mine."
A few minutes passed and Emeraldheart must've licked or cleaned up every part that had gotten wet. Swimming came with it's backfires. But still she enjoyed swimming, even sacrificing the state of her own pelt to cool off in the stream.
"I don't think you really appreciate me calling you 'tom'... eh tom?.. Or about as much as I enjoy you calling me 'she-cat'. How bout' we introduce ourselves, and hopefully not be as snappy about it." Chuckled Emeraldheart. "I go by Emeraldheart, Emerald for short if ya luck."

Owlclaw almost growled, as the she-cat turned away; probably thinking about how she got out on top in their little squabble. Dawncloud does the same thing to him…except she does it openly. If the she-cat thought she was triumphant, she was wrong; his gaze hardened. Now she was cleaning her pelt; what was the point of going into the water then? Why did she even want to go into the water? Owlclaw couldn’t figure it out. His pelt was fine; still sleek, but apparently the she-cats wasn’t, and he just sat there, laying down as he watched her work at fixing her wet pelt.
|
'This is why only BrookClan can go into our waters; we don’t have to worry about anything like messing up our pelt.' he almost smirked.
Still, the thought of the she-cat actually wanting to go into the water, and not being part of BrookClan, confused him. Hadn’t BrookClan cats been the only ones to like water? Perhaps she wasn’t a clan cat then; that was the only explanation. It had to be; no GoldeClan born cat would in their right mind want to go into the water. Almost all, if not all, the cats in the other clans didn’t like going into the water and getting their pelts wet; kitty-pets, all of them. "It's all fair play, tom. You were just doing your job as a warrior, that's all. I respect that. Sides' we're all warriors here right. Abiding by the code and all," his ear twitched; the warrior code didn’t allow trespassers. "Hope you don't mind me freshening up. That water does a number on a pelt. Heh, or atleast mine." Owlclaw snorted; turning his head away, as he let his own pelt air dry. "Hm, yes. We‘re both warriors here; so what drove you to break the warrior code in the first place, she-cat?" he partially sneered; obviously he wasn’t going to give the she-cat an easy time; but he wasn’t about to give her a hard time either. Just in the middle. "Hn, it‘s just your pelt. More like your diet." he said; of course GoldenClan wouldn’t know what to eat to keep their pelt nice and sleek. Then again, the BrookClan diet was fit for only a BrookClan cat.
Apparently the she-cat had finished grooming herself; as she began to speak again, this time not as she cleaned herself. "I don't think you really appreciate me calling you 'tom'... eh tom?.. Or about as much as I enjoy you calling me 'she-cat'. How bout' we introduce ourselves, and hopefully not be as snappy about it." he just gazed at her, a hardened yet un-hostile look. Truthfully he didn’t care whether or not he was being called tom; they didn’t need to know each others names, not unless one was about to kill the other in battle. Of course, it might only just be him, who liked to know who was going to kill him or who he was going to kill; not that he liked killing or anything. That was just the way of the battle. "I go by Emeraldheart, Emerald for short if ya luck." Owlclaw just nodded; but he didn’t offer his name right away. It was after a few moments of deliberation that he finally spoke. "Owlclaw." simple, short, and to the point. That was all he would give the she-cat--Emeraldheart. [ Word Count ] 558 [ Tagged ] Wolfy/Emeraldheart [ Notes ] N/A

"What drove me was a nice swim in the water," Emeraldheart responded. In her mind small rule breaking wasn't really something to worry about. Everyone breaks a rule in their life time and anyone who denies it is obviously lying. There was a difference between setting a hair on someones territory and stealing prey altogether.
",You have to admit this humidity and heat gets to you. But as a warrior of Brookclan, I wouldn't expect you to really know. Your brought up on marshy lands with cool water. Meanwhile we live on the open prairie."
"Hn, it‘s just your pelt. More like your diet."
She shrugged at the comment. Goldenclan and Brookclan weren't very alike. One clan lived on open land with only one main watering whole and bordered by a stream. While Brookclan lived on wetlands and had many water resources around.
"That's no surprise. We mainly eat birds and mice, you guys probably eat more fish and water voles. Now I enjoy a good fish every now and then but we're accustomed to what we're brought up with."
After introducing herself as Emeraldheart. She had patiently waited for him to tell her his name. "Owlclaw."
"Well Owlclaw, it's nice to meet you." She dipped her head in greeting. She may have been from another clan, and he might've approached her with an attitude of an adder. But that didn't mean she had no respect or manners.

Owlclaw snorted slightly to himself; so the she-cat wasn’t so mouse-brained after all. Even he had to admit; there were some days where the humidity had gotten to him. Though he wondered if GoldenClan had a stream or water source she could’ve gone to instead of the stream, the BrookClan stream. Surely there was some place to get even the slightest bit wet in GoldenClan. Still, he couldn’t know for sure; but so long as Emeraldheart didn’t steal prey or anything, then it was all good. Still, he really wasn’t comfortable being kind to the she-cat; so he remained semi-hostile. Not too hostile, but not too friendly. He could live with that.
With a small sigh, Owlclaw turned his attention to the stream, keeping his ears pricked; just in case. He wasn’t paranoid or anything…just, cautious right now, and perhaps looking for a fight that probably won’t come. As the brown tabby spoke of the different prey the clans preyed on, Owlclaw looked up; his own green eyes clashing with Emeraldheart’s.
|
"Well Owlclaw, it's nice to meet you." Owlclaw could only look at her as if she had three heads. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to have manners, though he was sure it would seem more forced if anything. "Same here." he mewed, with a nod of his head. Ok, so sure, it wasn’t exactly being respectful or he didn’t show his best manners. But hey, could you blame the tom? He wasn’t in the best of moods to begin with, so why should he act like it just because of a she-cat who refused to fight with him? He shouldn’t, and so, he didn’t. However, instead of just having silence as they both sat on the opposite sides of the river, Owlclaw decided to--just this once--begin a conversation. After all; what else had he to do besides go off and destroy something? 'Nothing, that’s what.'"The prey is well, this Green-Leaf, right, Emeraldheart?" Well, what else was he supposed to say without possibly offending the brown tabby? Once again, nothing. Talking about the abundance of prey that every clan had was the safest route; there was nothing that could offend her from that topic. Unless he somehow had, which he doubted. There was nothing to be used against each other with the talk of prey anyways; it’s not like GoldenClan had suddenly ran out of prey or anything; that thought was laughable. Especially at this time of the year; Green-Leaf; prey was plentiful for every clan, and it would remain that way for the rest of Green-Leaf. [ Word Count ] 424 [ Tagged ] Wolfy/Emeraldheart [ Notes ] N/A

After acquainting with the Brookclan tom she guessed he was going to head back out. But when he never made his advances and decided to sit down and converse the actions surprised her. Though at the same time she was glad Owlclaw had decided to stay. These type of tom's were usually big softy's deep down inside covering themselves with a hard, rough outer shell. And the she-cat loved nothing more than breaking each layer open to discover the feline under the fur. Maybe she was just nosey that way nd wanted to know everything about everyone. or possibly it was just her way of trying to make friends.
His conversation starter wasn't the most interesting but the safest of choices. Not that she cared about his personal opinion against her clan or not. Everyone was entitled to their own opinion and she respected it. Even a Brookclanners.
"The prey is well, this Green-Leaf, right, Emeraldheart?"
"Ah, very! Take two steps and you've already found your afternoon lunch - literally. Happened to me just yesterday! I was out patrolling after high-noon when the warriors came back with the fresh kill and I found myself the plumpest rabbit ever. Shared it with three of my clan mates. Best I've caught so far, this season.. anyways..," Boasted the tabby, chin lifted proudly like an apprentice after killing their first prey. ",Bet your clan's doing good, alright."

Green eyes looked up at the brown tabby, as the she-cat began to boast of a catch she had made the previous day. As the green eyes of the dark tabby tom looked at the pose the she-cat had taken on, he chuckled lightly. It reminded him somewhat of a new apprentice that just made their first catch. It made him wonder, was Emeraldheart a new warrior; proud of the large catch she made the previous day? Or perhaps she was just proud of it, as many warriors would be.
Owlclaw nodded, after hearing of her experience yesterday; it was a plump rabbit, she had said; plump enough to share with three of her clanmates. He nodded his congratulations, as that was a good catch, if she could share with three others. Personally, he wasn’t too keen on rabbits; he preferred the fish from the river, but he also liked the water vole. The occasional mouse was fine as well; but rabbits? They didn’t taste the same to him, he didn’t like them much. Still, he wasn’t one to complain about prey, unless it was that there was no prey around.
"Bet your Clan’s doing good, alright." Owlclaw nodded, in agreement this time. BrookClan was doing well, after all; it had a variety of prey to choose from, from the fish in the river to the mouse and other small land-prey that are found on their territory.
|
"Yes, BrookClan is doing well, as expected. The prey is plenty; caught myself a water vole and a couple fish this morning." he stated, a proud tone in his voice. Of course, he had only kept one fish for himself, sharing it with his littermates; but the other prey he caught were put in the fresh-kill pile, for the clan. One of the kits, old enough to eat small bits of prey, had actually wanted the water vole. Of course, Owlclaw gave it to the small kit, to bring to his littermates and mother as well. "We better count our blessings now; I’m almost positive the next leaf-bare will be a harsh one. A good Green-Leaf usually means a hard Leaf-Bare." it was true, usually. It was almost like the prey was balancing itself out; if it was easy to catch as it is now, then normally it would be much more difficult in the leaf-bare. However, if it were a moderate amount of prey, then the leaf-bare wouldn’t be so hard. Well, in Owlclaw’s opinion. [ Word Count ] 410 [ Tagged ] Wolfy/Emeraldheart [ Notes ] N/A
