Cherrysong skipped across camp, her amber eyes bright and eager, a pretty rock that she had found in her mouth. As she neared the warriors' den, she calmed herself down enough to peer her head inside and set down her rock for a moment. "Hey! Guess what I found?" She called out. She was delighted to show anyone that would listen her discovery, and was pleased to find her sister nearby.
Redleaf merely rolled her eyes, used to her sister's kitlike antics by now, but not enjoying them any more than she always had. "What did you find?" She mumbled, pretending to be half-interested.
"A rock! A very pretty rock!" Cherrysong declared, picking it up again and hurrying over to her sister, dropping it in front of the annoyed looking Redleaf. "And guess what else? When you lick it, it tastes like earth and leaves! Its weird, I've never tasted a rock before, but I decided I would try it because there's a first time for everything, right?" She cocked her head, her bright eyes shining with innocence and hopefulness, awaiting her sister's response.
"You know that if you go around licking rocks, you're gonna get sick, right?" Redleaf informed her dully. But the naive she-cat merely shook her head.
"Nooo, I won't get sick, don't worry. Just try it! Lick the rock! It tastes cool," Cherrysong insisted, pushing the pretty rock towards Redleaf with a paw.
"I'd rather not. Why don't you go make friends with a nice apprentice? Show your rock off to someone new."
|
Redleaf suggested gently. "Okay!" Cherrysong piped, picking up her rock eagerly and bounding out of the warriors' den, leaving Redleaf rolling her eyes behind her. She stopped short, looking around. It was then that her eyes fell upon the little shy-looking apprentice, Sandpaw. She headed over, but made sure to go at a slightly less enthusiastic pace than usual, with not quite as much skip in her step, so as not to scare the apprentice that she hardly knew. She set down her rock and took a step towards the apprentice. "Hey, Sandpaw!" She awaited the little she-cat's response, smiling in a friendly way at the sandy-colored apprentice, her enthusiasm and eagerness shining clearly on her face as she bounced up and down on her tip-paws. There was nothing really for her to do; she hadn’t seen her leader and mentor all day; perhaps Eaglestar was out on a patrol or something. Maybe they weren’t even going to train today. Sandpaw was hoping they would; but then again, why disappoint him in yet another thing she can’t do right? ‘Hmph, finally, the first smart thing you think, you pathetic excuse for an apprentice.’ |
The Kinktail voice in her head said. She wasn’t crazy or anything; there was just a negative side of her that seemed to think like that horrid Kinktail. Sandpaw just stared at the floor, actually willing to agree with the voice this time. For a moment, she felt as if everything was slipping out of her paws; out of her grasp. Her warrior name, her apprentice rank, her clan, her reason. It was all slipping away, and for what? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Sandpaw shook her head, and stepped out of the apprentice’s den, where she had been thinking. It seemed as if as she breathed the new, fresh air, she felt renewed. 'Hm, nope. I’m worth something; I know it.' Sandpaw thought to herself; a slight smile on her face as she watched her clanmates go about. She wasn’t just about to let all she worked for go; she wasn’t going to let Flamepaw go just like that. She couldn’t; she’d hold onto him until she couldn’t anymore, until her paws bled. He was her brother; and she was going to bring him back; without Kinktail. "Hey, Sandpaw!" the small brown tabby apprentice looked up, jade eyes uncertain and shy. It was one of the newer, younger warriors; Cherrysong. Sandpaw then looked down, shy and nervous all of a sudden at the thought of talking with the older warrior. However, she knew she couldn’t just stay silent, her mother wouldn’t have liked that. "Um…h-hello, Cherrysong…" the tabby apprentice managed, pawing at the ground, unsure of what to say next. She never was really good at these types of things; socializing and all. It was mainly due to her shy nature. Pebblepaw didn’t count though; they were similar and their friendship just…started because of it. It wasn’t the same as actually making a friend; well, sort of. Her jade eyes glanced at the warrior once more, before returning to the hole she was currently making with her paws. "Umm…wha--how--er, can I…umm…help…you?" she asked, more as if it were a question to herself than to Cherrysong. As if she were unsure in her words; which she was. The shy tabby just kept glancing up at the warrior, but when she saw the warriors gaze on her, she moved her own gaze to her paws, which were now kneading the ground, as if something would turn up if she continued. [ Word Count ] 462 [ Tagged ] Ravenclaw/Cherrysong [ Notes ] N/A

"Um…h-hello, Cherrysong…" Cherrysong smiled widely, blinking as she waited for Sandpaw to get more comfortable. She looked awfully on edge. Maybe a little joke would cheer her up? Or some rock licking? Cherrysong still wanted someone else to lick her rock. Still, as the apprentice's eyes shifted from her kneading paws to Cherrysong's cheerful face, the warrior couldn't help but wonder if she was the type to invite to lick a rock. She might think you're weirder than the Clan already thinks you are, The small sane portion of her mind argued, in a voice that sounded seemingly like Redleaf's. But her overpowering, insane potion of mind reminded her that there was nothing wrong with being yourself, even around someone you hardly knew. Besides, Sandpaw looked like she needed a friend.
"Umm…wha--how--er, can I…umm…help…you?" Cherrysong tried to make sense of the apprentice's mumbling, frowning slightly. "Help me? What's that supposed to mean?!" She demanded, her easily offended side shining through for a moment. Did the apprentice think she needed help? She was perfectly capable of doing whatever she wanted without help from anyone.
Catching sight of her rock on the ground, however, the excitable little warrior quickly forgot about what she had been angry about a moment ago. "Do you want to lick my rock? It tastes like earth and leaves! I was trying to get Redleaf to lick it, but she didn't want to. And then she told me to come find an apprentice or someone to make friends with, so here I am!" Cherrysong gave one of her signature adorable giggles to finish off her little ramble, taking a breath. She pushed the rock towards Sandpaw, eager.
Her eyes then caught sight of the sun, high above the pair. "Oh! Did you know that if you look at the sun directly when its really bright, you get little rainbow dots clouding your eyes? Once, I had so many dots in my eyes, I could hardly see where I was going, and I fell off a hill and tumbled down. But its okay because I didn't get hurt," She informed Sandpaw, not even realizing how much she was talking; it was nothing new for her, and in her mind, the random comment about the sun didn't seem out of place at all, not even to someone she was speaking to for the first time. "Has that ever happened to you?" She asked, reminding herself that the best way to start a conversation was to ask questions to whoever you were talking to.

Sandpaw glanced at the warrior’s cheerful face before Cheerysong suddenly frowned. Had she said something wrong? 'Probably did; you can’t even talk to a warrior correctly. Failure.' She agreed with that Kinktail voice in her head; but what had she done that would’ve offended the warrior? |
"Help me? What’s that supposed to mean?!" Sandpaw felt her head drop, and her ears fell flat, making her look as if she were facing a fox. In truth, she probably felt the same fear and worry as if she were actually facing a fox. She didn’t take to getting yelled at well; it was a lot like being with Kinktail all over again. Reminding her that she, once again, did something wrong. "I--I’m sorry…I didn’t--I--I didn’t mean to…I’m sorry…" she murmured, her eyes wide and teary as she apologized to the offended warrior. She hadn’t meant to of course; but she didn’t think that would offend Cherrysong. Right now, anyone looking at Sandpaw would think of a kit being scolded by their mother for the first time. As Sandpaw stared up, frightfully at Cherrysong, she noticed that warrior take note of the rock she had dropped on the ground. Her fear quickly subsided as she glanced curiously at the rock that Cherrysong carried. What was so special about it? Sandpaw glanced up at the warrior, then at the rock, then back to the warrior and finally to her own paws, which stilled once Cherrysong yelled at her. "Do you want to lick my rock? It tastes like earth and leaves! I was trying to get Redleaf to lick it, but she didn't want to. And then she told me to come find an apprentice or someone to make friends with, so here I am!" Sandpaw just blinked, unsure of what to say to the warrior’s offer. Was that why the she-cat was carrying the rock around? So other cats could…lick it? As Cherrysong giggled, pushing the rock towards her, Sandpaw tilted her head. Did she want her to lick it? Would she be offended if she didn’t. Unsure, Sandpaw just looked curiously at it; even moving it around a bit. What was wrong with licking a rock anyways? Cherrysong did it, so it should be fine, right? 'Then again, Redleaf didn’t want to…but maybe she just didn’t feel like it…what’s…the…harm?' "Um…Cherrysong…is--er, is it…umm…is it safe to…uh…lick?" Sandpaw glanced up at Cherrysong, still unsure of whether she should lick the rock or not. "Oh! Did you know that if you look at the sun directly when its really bright, you get little rainbow dots clouding your eyes? Once, I had so many dots in my eyes, I could hardly see where I was going, and I fell off a hill and tumbled down. But its okay because I didn't get hurt," Sandpaw stepped back, a little overwhelmed by the excited warrior. Her eyes were wide as she listened to Cherrysong; what was she supposed to say to that? She didn’t have anything to say about it. But it would be rude to just ignore her, wouldn’t it? So what should she do? Sandpaw was almost in a turmoil; she was not good at this type of stuff. "Has that ever happened to you?" Still overwhelmed somewhat by the talkative and eager warrior, Sandpaw could only shake her head. Nothing like that has ever happened to her; well, not because of looking into the sun. "Umm…uh, no…it hasn’t…" finally having found her voice Sandpaw managed to stutter that out. She turned her attention back to her paws; which began to knead the ground once more. Why was it she couldn’t do anything right? [ Word Count ] 604 [ Tagged ] Ravenclaw/Cherrysong [ Notes ] Aww, Cherrysong is adorable. xD And poor Sandpaw; she doesn't know how to handle Cherry. <3

Cherrysong cocked her head as she listened to the apprentice's words, her stuttering and nervousness making her hard to understand. "I--I’m sorry…I didn’t--I--I didn’t mean to…I’m sorry…"She had hardly had time to take the apprentice's shaky apology into account before she had rambled off about her rocks, not really caring. She had always been one to brush aside problems after a few moments, after all. Not much could keep the optimistic little she-cat sad for very long. You know, I don't think I've ever been sad or angry for more than about ten minutes. That has to be the record, she thought, recalling the time she was mad for about ten minutes, when her brother had messed up her nest of pretty feathers as a sort of joke when they were apprentices. After insisting several times that she'd be mad forever and would never speak to him again, she had decided in a few minutes' time that being mad was far too much effort, and had gone back to her happy, optimistic self, forgiving her brother and quickly challenging him to a play-duel, which had ended up with Emberblaze winning, as expected.
"Um…Cherrysong…is--er, is it…umm…is it safe to…uh…lick?" Once she had finished her ramble about the sun producing rainbow dots, she decided to return to Sandpaw's question, which had been somewhat overrun by Cherrysong's observations about the sun. "Of course its safe, silly!" She replied with yet another giggle, grinning widely. It had to be safe. It was just a rock, after all. Redleaf was just boring sometimes, that was all. She was sure that anyone else would want to lick a rock, after all. Who wouldn't want the experience of licking a rock?
"Here, I'll show you," She meowed, leaning over and licking the rock. "Mmm! It tastes cool!" She insisted, licking her lips and smiling. "Not like any piece of prey... Different. But still cool."
A moment later her wandering thoughts returned to Sandpaw's response to her question about the sun. "Umm…uh, no…it hasn’t…" She had said. "Really? Its weird, everything strange seems to happen to me..." It didn't even cross her mind that the reason for this might be the warrior's obvious oddities that were clearly visible to everyone but herself. It had never really crossed her mind that she was different. In fact, she spent most of her time wondering why the rest of the Clan couldn't be like she was, carefree and happy all the time. They spent far too much time talking about serious warrior things, when they could be telling unique stories about their lives, like she did.

Sandpaw noticed that Cherrysong had dismissed her apology, but she figured it had to be a good thing. At least it meant that the warrior wasn’t really mad at her, right? The young warrior didn’t seem too upset either, almost immediately turning her attention to the rock that she had wanted the tabby apprentice to lick. Sandpaw was still unsure of it, as no one had ever asked her to lick a rock before.
"Of course its safe, silly!" Sandpaw just blinked, looking at Cherrysong with curious eyes. There was no harm in trying to taste a rock, was there? No, probably not. Still, Sandpaw couldn’t bring herself to lick the rock. What if it was just some prank on her expense? Because she wasn’t as good an apprentice as others. |
'Yeah, you’re only good for a laugh, that’s it.' Sandpaw couldn’t help but flatten her ears, in am almost ashamed way. Glancing at Cherrysong, as if waiting for the warrior to get tired of the prank, Sandpaw paused. "Here, I’ll show you," and with that said, the warrior bent down and licked the rock herself. Sandpaw straightened, curiously looking from Cherrysong to the rock, looking for any signs of anything bad. If Cherrysong wasn’t hurt by licking a rock, then what would be the harm? "Mmm! It tastes cool! Not like any piece of prey…Different. But still cool." Sandpaw nodded, looking curiously at a rock. It tasted cool? But what if something happened to her? It might’ve not happened to Cherrysong, but it might happen to her. There was still that possibility. "Umm…so…are you sure it won’t hurt me…I mean---you’re a warrior, but I’m just an apprentice…what if I get hurt?" Perhaps she was being too…paranoid? Worried? Afraid? Maybe all three; but she didn’t want to lick the rock. At least, not until she knew it wouldn’t hurt her. "Really? Its weird, everything strange seems to happen to me..." Sandpaw titled her head, curiously. Well, nothing like that happened to her, but some strange things happened to her as well…just not the same stuff that happened to Cherrysong. "W-well…there was thing one time…I w-was w-wondering the territory…and I fell…in a hole…" Sandpaw murmured, looking shyly down at her feet. There was a time she tried to climb a tree as well; but she fell; luckily she wasn’t all that high. In her defense, though, she didn’t have experience in the territory; it was only just after she became apprenticed. Luckily no one else was there to see her fall; that would’ve been horrible. Eaglestar would’ve probably just let her go; and choose another mentor for her. She didn’t want that; but she didn’t know it was there. Her ears flattened ashamed of her fall.[ Word Count ] 452 [ Tagged ]Ravenclaw/Cherrysong [ Notes ]Sorry it’s a little weird…and it took long. Dx

Cherrysong giggled at the apprentice's response, her eyes wandering around camp a bit. She spotted a bug flitting around in the air overhead, letting out one of her signature giggles before batting at it with a paw. "Look, its a bug... Haha! Come here, Mister bug!" Playful and lighthearted as usual, she allowed the bug to momentarily distract her from the conversation before it buzzed away, zoning back in briefly to listen to Sandpaw's words, flicking her ear at the apprentice.
"Umm…so…are you sure it won’t hurt me…I mean---you’re a warrior, but I’m just an apprentice…what if I get hurt?"
|
Cherrysong shook her head in response. "I'd never hurt you!" She insisted. The friendly young warrior would never hurt anyone, for that matter. "Besides, you're not much smaller than I am... I don't think it would matter," Cherrysong insisted. She knew she was significantly smaller than the average warrior, and though her slight fluffy fur seemed to hide that a bit, it was still quite obvious. She couldn't quite recall the apprentice's age, but she knew that Sandpaw couldn't be too much younger than she was; after all, she had only recently become a warrior. She then moved on to recall the apprentice's other statement. "W-well…there was thing one time…I w-was w-wondering the territory…and I fell…in a hole…" Cherrysong took a moment to acknowledge the apprentice's stutter, wondering if she was making Sandpaw nervous. She had never made anyone nervous before. She generally thought she was an easy cat to be around. Even if she knew cats sometimes got tired of her optimism, she had never made anyone nervous before. Still, she pushed it aside, convincing herself that the longer she talked to Sandpaw, the more comfortable Sandpaw would become. At the mention of a hole, Cherrysong decided to share yet another random story with Sandpaw, which, to her, didn't seem random at all. "Once, I saw a big hole while hunting with my brother, and he convinced me that it was a magic portal to Twolegplace... I ended up getting stuck in it, and he had to go get our mom to pull me out." She cocked her head at this thought, her amber eyes clouding slightly with confusion. "It wasn't really a portal," She stated airily, as if she had expected Sandpaw to believe that it was.
