Chinchi slid out of the flap door that his twolegs had had inserted into their larger door, bristling slightly in discomfort as the bottom of the flap slid across his back. He enjoyed being able to leave the house whenever he wanted, but if there was some way he could do it without that blasted flap, he'd take it! He started a little as it slapped shut behind him, but didn't run as he had the first few times he had left the house this way. He was starting to get used to it. Sort of, he noted as he saw that he was now half-way across the lawn with no recollection of having moved.
He payed it no mind, however, and soon his attention was focused elsewhere as he gazed up at the crisp, deep blue sky. There were hardly any clouds in sight, making the strong green-leaf sun shine directly upon his pale-furred back. Purring, he stretched out a little, enjoying the warmth. In a sudden fit of abandon, he flung himself down on his side and rolled around on the grass for a while, not caring about all the dust that was gathering in his coat.
Just as suddenly, he sat up straight and stared hard at a tree in his yard. Scrabbling up the trunk was a squirrel, a nut clutched tightly between it's jaws. It kept climbing until it reached the first branch, then plopped itself down on it and began peeling away the hard shell from it's breakfast. Feeling particularly friendly, Chinchi wandered over and, situating himself under the squirrel's branch, looked up at it with his pale green eyes and called, "Good morning, squirrel! It is a wonderful day today, isn't it?"
There was nothing but silence in return, then out of nowhere a chip of the squirrel's nut came hurtling down and hit the small kitten right on his sensitive nose, sending pain shooting up his muzzle. With a surprised cry, Chinchi leapt up and headed further out into the yard, coming right up against the fence. He had forgotten his painful encounter with the squirrel, and now, in a fit of whimsy, decided that he wanted to see what was over the fence. Gathering himself, he leapt straight upward, strong hindlegs propelling him forward. Still, the fence was of such height that it was all he could do to hold on with his forepaws and scramble up the rest of the way with his hind ones.
Tired out with his effort, Chinchi sat atop the fence for a while with his eyes closed, catching his breath. When he finally opened them again, it was to look down upon a landscape completely alien to what he was used to. A sweeping landscape of vibrant green grass, dotted here and there with small and medium-sized boulders. Feeling curious, without a second thought he dropped down onto the strange territory and headed off into the grass, eager to see whatever was out there.
