<---- ADDERFANG
male, fifty-two moons
RANK: Warrior[/b] Emberstripe - ginger she-cat with amber eyes.
ALLIANCE: GoldenClan
APPEARANCE: Light brown tabby tom with amber eyes.
PERSONALITY:
Adderfang has very much been a prankster of sorts since birth. He loves making jokes (especially at others' expenses, even though it's never malicious). He also adores a good practical joke, tripping cats or fooling them into doing stupid or embarrassing things for his amusement. He also loves wordplay; he's a fan of intelligent and cunning puns. Vaguely smart (decently enough so that he can get subtle humor and educated references), Adderfang loves to laugh and mess around. Sadly, though, and rather hypocritical in characteristics, he doesn't particularly seem to be able to take what he dishes out. He hates being made a fool — he's a little too proud — in front of others, and he holds with great disdain liars and fibbers, cats who can't keep their word worth anything. It's slightly backwards considering that he often tells white lies all the time to get his pranks or jokes rolling out without kinks, but his brain is so geared in this regard that the inconsistency is unmendable. So, he'll pull something on someone else all in good fun, but if someone tries to trick him, he'll be quick to get angry and end all the games. This makes him a bit impossible sometimes.
Adderfang absolutely loathes drama and theatrics, though. He doesn't exaggerate things, and he never makes a show. He doesn't understand how someone can hold grudges, and he himself never stays disgruntled for too long, even if someone pulls something on him. When it comes to making a scene over things (bringing personal business out in public, being an attention-grabber for petty reasons, and being terribly open about stuff that no one cares about for sympathy), he firmly believes that it's a waste of everyone's time and brain cells. While he generates a bit of drama himself through his jokes, he doesn't get why a cat would do anything to bring attention to themselves in such a negative manner on purpose. Adderfang strongly believes that there is a fine line between having some fun and just going plain overboard. Fighting, quarreling, and stupidity makes literally makes him nauseous. Life is meant for enjoyment and elation, not bickering and bantering. Empathy is not a token handed out with every free pelt-washing. Adderfang doesn't feel sympathy unless it's deserved, and he pays no mind to cats wailing to the wind.
Along those lines, he also disagrees with showing sorrow through moping or angst. He sees these emotions as counterproductive, and he tries his hardest never to display depression or hurt. Adderfang rarely divulges his true feelings on a subject if his opinions are negative. When saddened or made to be emotional, he doesn't tell a soul; he bottles up his stress and sadness, and when he can he'll simply force himself to forget bad things that have affected him. Believing strongly in always making the best of any and all situations, he refuses to show weakness (for he deems that everything other than resolution and optimism are signs of such). He keeps himself looking forward to brighter days and clearer skies all the time. He's gotten good at not letting things get to him, and he's become a rather infallible character. It's hard to shake him. There are very few cats who have seen him at his worst (his most anguished, so to say). In all honesty, most likely only his brother, Eaglestar, has witnessed him be anything less than strong and hopeful, amber eyes gleaming with mischief and determination. Adderfang is incredibly close to his brother, and he's crazy proud of everything that the high-ranked leader has done and is doing. But even so, not even he has been an audience to Adderfang's true feelings on a lot of things.
It's not impossible to make Adderfang angry or serious, especially if one remembers how perturbed he gets if he's made the butt of a joke or whatever. Despite his unending (and forced) optimism and love for laughter, he can get frustrated and exasperated just like any other mortal warrior. He's usually very sociable and friendly, though. He's not sassy or rude, only poking fun when it's obvious that it's not in poor taste. He knows when it's not a good time to fool around, ignoring those seldom times where he has played a prank on the wrong cat. Sadly, though, he's considered annoying sometimes. He can be really nosey and loud, his voice often booming much stronger than he truthfully intends. He'll get a little too much into other cats' affairs, too, poking his nose into places where it's quite unwelcome. This incites drama occassionally as well, although it's not like he gets into strangers' businesses. This is more of a problem that Eaglestar has to contend with, his brother always asking about how his days are going and demanding without saying all of the details, boring or not.
At the same time (and was somewhat already touched upon), Adderfang is amazingly devoted and loyal to his brother. It's unending and vast, so much pride, brotherly love, and happiness all rolled up into one huge mass of writhing affection. While he does let his brother-and-leader breathe, he likes to spend a good amount of time with him, stressing on maintaining their close relationship at all costs. In consequence, though, Eaglestar is more often than not a target, Adderfang making jokes and criticizing him all the time. It's all in jest, of course, and he never says anything disrespectful in public. Amongst fellow clanmates, he knows to keep his mouth shut about the personal crap, following his own doctrines on that matter. Mostly he's simply biased toward his brother; he agrees with everything he says (although sometimes it's taken as caustic when it's not meant to be, his usual sarcasm and reputation not meshing well with the seriousness he presents in front of Eaglestar), and he often openly states how he'd fight to the end for his Clan under Eaglestar. Whatever the leader says, he does, and whatever he wishes, Adderfang makes come true. Whenever he is questioned (like he ever really is), he is quick to defend the wise leader. No one's allowed to rebel against Eagelstar with Adderfang around.
REASON FOR NAME:
The "adder" prefix was given to him because of his coloration and the strong connotation that the word has. The "fang" suffix was tacked on because of its relation to "adder", and also because he's a pretty darn good fighter. He deserves a fierce name.
FAMILY:
Father: Hawkclaw - brown tabby with green eyes.
Brother: Eaglestar - brown and white tabby with amber eyes.
Sister: Hazelkit - [deceased][/ul]
HISTORY:
Adderkit was born into a litter of three. His brother, Eaglekit, and his sister, Hazelkit, were tucked along with him in the alcove of their mother's slightly curved body, ginger fur rising up and down with every breath. Emberstripe, their mother, nurtured them and fed them, and their father, Hawkclaw, frequently visited them. Both cats were prominent members of GoldenClan, the two of them equally devoted to their lineage as Clan cats. In the following moon since his leave from the womb, Adderkit immediately showed his disposition for mischief and trouble, more often than not tugging at queens' tails and maybe perchance finding a creepy-looking bug to stick into another kit's bedding. He found much joy in this, and he consistantly (and incessantly) did this ever since he could drag himself around with little, fumbling paws. He loved getting a jolt out of cats; he would sabotage warriors, too, when they came in, tripping their heels if possible. Adderkit would get scolded a lot, but it didn't quell his behavior. The only thing that ever really disconcerted him was how his brother, Eaglekit, nor his sickly sister, Hazelkit, ever participated in his games. They were too laid-back and willing to please.
Within the first moon of their lives, Hazelkit passed away from greencough, her feverish body swept away of its spirit, leaving the stiffening body to grow cold. Her death was so sudden and saddening that it struck a chord with the entire family, although it seemed to hurt Eaglekit the most. Adderkit, in mourning himself, noticed his brother's withdrawal from everyone. Being a little kit, he didn't know nor could accept that everyone had different ways of dealing with despair. Eaglekit refused to talk, and he was always in the corner of the nursery, face hidden and body curled so tightly together that he looked terribly small. His reaction to Hazelkit's death honestly made Adderkit feel like he'd lost more than just one sibling. Eaglekit, his brother, was so far gone in sorrow that it burned Adderkit to see him in such a state. But not only did he feel depression over two siblings, he felt a growing and bubbling anger. Why did Eaglekit think that it was right to avoid him and their parents to go sulk over Hazelkit? Why did he behave like he was the only one feeling anguish? These questions fermented in his head, and Adderkit found himself getting more and more perturbed with his brother. The kit was lost in limbo, a limbo that he refused to walk through or break away from. Adderkit could have acted the same. But he didn't. He moved on. He'd learned that life always kept going, so why couldn't Eaglekit?
Eventually, when Adderkit had had enough, he confronted Eaglekit, his fur puffed up and his weak, little claws scratching at the ground. "You think you're the only one, huh? She was my sister, too, and you don't see me sulking like a lost little she-kit," he had said, his mew sharp and berating. He was desperate to snap sense into his brother, and he wanted to get all of his pent-up emotions out of him; it was to the point that it was simmering inside his head. He felt nauseous, his anger and exasperation making him shake. His mocking words provoked Eaglekit, and before he knew it, the whole argument climaxed into a brawl, the two kits tussling and spitting. Half way through the fight, Adderkit found himself laughing. He knew that his brother was back to normal, his eyes finally alight with emotion other than the bleakness of sorrow. The change made the kit lighten his hitting, and his change in demeanor resulted in Eaglekit's apparent altering of emotion, the two kits soon play fighting instead of violently trying to beat each other up. When their mother and other queens finally came to see what was the matter, Adderkit knew he'd single-handedly fixed his brother. Things could finally go back to how they were before Hazelkit died. Although he had to hope just a little bit that maybe Eaglekit would help him more with his pranks.
A few moons later and the two kits were in the shadow of Flat Tree, the elongated stump standing out against the gold and blue of the landscape. Adderkit was beyond excited, his light brown paws kneading impatiently beside his brother. The leader began the ceremony, and the two were made 'paws and given their mentors. Eaglepaw was matched with Snowfeather, a white she-cat, and Adderpaw was assigned to the care and guidance of a rather strict mentor (he wasn't surprised) named Fogstep. The tom's dark gray body had loomed over him that day, and Adderpaw's first impression was not that great. In the following moons after, the warrior did a lot of work with him. He made it clear that their relationship was pure business, and he stressed a lot on fighting and becoming an independent warrior. Adderpaw proved to be a natural at mastering battle moves; the image of his surprised mentor, winded and dirtied beneath his paws, was permanently engraved into his mind, and with every step of progress that he made, he was lauded by an impressed Fogstep. While he was becoming more and more of a developed and independent tom, he was always glad to find himself on the same patrol as Eaglepaw (which was actually often). His brother was obviously a pretty well-rounded individual, his claws working faster and keener at every twist of the day. Adderpaw was turning out to be an amazing fighter, one that often had praise spewing from the mouths of many a cat, but even he had to step back and applaud his brother sometimes, his skills well-rounded and impressive.
At twelve moons, they were deemed ready to rise up in the ranks, and just as before at their apprenticeship ceremony, they stood side by side before the Flat Tree to receive their warrior names. Adderpaw was named Adderfang, and Eaglepaw was changed to Eagleheart. The two shining brothers had stood vigil outside of camp, upholding that ancient tradtion, but as soon as the sun's crest breached the golden, swaying wheat fields, the two were play fighting once more. Later that same day, the two split for their first assignment as warriors. Adderheart was sanctioned off to go on a hunting excursion, and while it wasn't his strongest suit, he did manage to catch prey for his Clan, something that made him genuinely happy. But when he got back to camp he was met with the news that his brother had encountered an enemy on a border patrol; he had fought a BrookClan off, and everyone seemed extremely pleased with him. While the information definitely outdid Adderfang's accomplishment of the day, he still became rather proud of his brother. Through relation they both shone bright, and he was happy to be able to hear of such wonderful things from his promising sibling.
Much later, GoldenClan was faced with the small yet nasty trouble of rogue sightings in the territory. As youthful and strong members of the Clan, Adderfang and his brother had been chosen to help make up some search parties, Adderfang going with one to reconnoiter one side of the land and Eagleheart leaving with the leader and deputy to comb over another section. His group found nothing, bland scent trails greeting them instead of exciting signs that trespassers had been nearby. This stumped them, and Adderfang proposed that they go back to camp or continue their search farther north to cover the other borders, but the explosion of movement and loud breathing interrupted anyone from responding. A frantic warrior informed them of the trouble that the leader's patrol had encountered. Fearing casualties (especially Eagleheart's), they raced toward their location. They came too late, though. Adderfang saw his deputy, Shadowstream, bleeding and unmoving beside Frostedstar. Shocked and stricken, he quickly went to his brother's side. He put on a brave face immediately. Head lifted and tail fleetingly touching Eagleheart everytime they got semi-close to each other, they carried the limp and empty vessel of their deputy back to camp for her deserved vigil.
To his surprise, his brother was made Shadowstream's successor. Extremely proud, he became even more devoted to his strong sibling. When Frostedstar died and Eaglestar moved up in rank, Adderfang constantly found himself jokingly bragging about his amazing brother to his friends, never passing up a moment to laud him. But then of course he wasn't without his own follow-up, his fighting abilities keeping him up to par with his brother's excellence.
