RACCOONSTAR
male, 36 moons
RANK: Leader.
LIVES LEFT: 9.
ALLIANCE: BoulderClan.
APPEARANCE: Silver-and-black marbled burly Maine coon with a raccoon-striped tail and pale yellow eyes.
PERSONALITY:
top of the line
Raccoonstar is generally a strict cat. He knows what the warriors need to be doing at almost every moment of the day (and yes, that does include when they need to sleep), and if it doesn't get done, he'll use his threatening voice and his patented 'death glare' to make sure that it gets done, no questions asked. He's got a will of steel, and nothing will ever make him spill any secrets, and no one will ever tell him what he needs to do. He's on top, and you're not. End of story. Goodbye, thank you for flying, don't stand until the plane comes to a complete stop, yadda yadda yadda.
lesson learned?
However strict Raccoonstar may be, he is a fantastic teacher. He teaches in a way that drills the lesson straight into his student's head, and keeps it held in there for as long as it is relevant. He is heavily regarded for his skills in teaching the young ones, but not by the students themselves. They obviously think that he's too strict a teacher, and that they aren't actually learning anything. Their warrior assessment tests beg to differ.
error! error!
Raccoonstar has one inner weakness; he'll stop at nothing to correct a grammatically incorrect statement. He'll even halt a full-on war if the opposing leader says "We got to" instead of "We have to". This isn't really a weakness, but it can be rather tedious. Oh, and he says that for the title of this personality segment, I should have capitalized the 'e' in 'error'. Yes. Definitely tedious.
not pessimistic; truthful
Though he won't show it, Raccoonstar is secretly quite the pessimist. He hates mornings more than anything; his annoyingly bare den doesn't block out all the light; and leaf-bare isn't a good subject with him. He hates it. The cold, the wind, the rain, the poor hunting, all of it adds up to an unhappy leader, and Raccoonstar manages to drag out this cold-related pessimism all throughout the year.
threats? more like promises
Raccoonstar is quite the burly cat, and he uses this strength to his advantage. When he threatens that he'll send you on twilight patrol for a month, his death glare isn't the only thing that will make sure that you stop what you shouldn't be doing. If he threatens with violence, you aren't just going to receive a scar or even a wound. He'll make sure that instead of doing twilight patrol for a moon, you'll be in the medicine cat's den for a moon. If you really are on his last nerve and decide to make him snap, he'll make sure that you leave BoulderClan in shame; dead or alive.
leave me alone
One thing that will always tick Raccoonstar off beyond measure is if you insult him because of anything about his appearance. Staring at him for too long whilst he stares off into space? Not the best idea. Comment on if he has a bad fur day? Bad idea. Mock his odd tail? Deadly-bad idea. After a verbal outburst that usually follows any of these kinds of instances, he usually just goes into a private area to be alone. Anyone who disturbs him now...let's just say you won't be going back without some red on your pelt.
REASON FOR NAME: His tail has unusually prominent black raccoon stripes on it, hence his name.
FAMILY:
Mother: Moonfire
Father: Thunderheart
Sister: Slashsnow
HISTORY:
kithood
Raccoonkit was born next to his white-furred sister, Slashkit, and by his brown-and-white furred mother and brown-and-black furred father. Altogether, they were a pretty odd-looking family, and Raccoonkit heard many a comment behind his family's back about their looks. This always threw Raccoonkit into a fit of rage, but he contained it, trying to wait until the correct moment. Trying to claw his way to the top began right after Slashkit, his own sister, for StarClan's sake, admitted that she and her brother did look odd compared to their parents. He would sneak outside into the twilit woods every night, just to train against an invisible opponent or to (attempt to) catch prey. He knew that by the time he was dubbed a 'paw, he'd be more than ready.
apprenticeship
Raccoonpaw, once dubbed so, was apprenticed to a young, but fiercely loyal, warrior named Owlfeather. Owlfeather liked Raccoonpaw, respected him even, and trained him harder than ever necessary. But Raccoonpaw appreciated this, knowing that every clawstroke against an invisible enemy was one claw closer to victory. At this point, he wasn't sure what victory was yet, but he knew that once he achieved it, everything would finally be perfect. It was also at this point when Raccoonpaw almost completely abandoned his family, leaving his parents to be whatever and leaving his sister to do anything that didn't get in his way. Once his assessment came, it seemed to be easier than Owlfeather's training had been, and he passed with flying colors.
warriorhood
Raccoontail, as he had been so annoyingly dubbed, now knew what he had to do. Once the leader appointed Owlfeather as deputy, the so called 'Coon cat' got that sparkle in his eye that he always got when he had an incredible idea. He was going to be leader someday, and he would do anything to get his way. He clawed his way past teaching an apprentice; who's name means nothing, but it was Falconpaw; who left with much more knowledge than he began with. And so, when the previous leader (who's name also means nothing...it was Seastar) died off because of a deadly case of greencough, Raccoontail became deputy. And to this day, he wonders if it was just because he was favored over all by his previous mentor. His deputy days were much like his warrior days; though he did simultaneously train two menacing apprentices named Flamepaw and Windpaw, which was a pretty notable experience for both him and his apprentices. They left with a smile that Raccoontail later copied in use of his death glare. All seemed well.
leadership
Until the storm. The electric storm that had forced everyone into deep crevices of their dens, the storm that Owlstar had scouted, just to make sure everyone would be okay. The storm where Raccoontail had followed him...and where a burst of lightning ended a life, and changed another. Owlstar, struck down by the very heavens, every life he had left seeping out of him. He didn't look like himself anymore; he was burnt, scarred, almost ripped. And the cry of agony that seemed to fill the stormy air was not the fallen leader's, but the one of Raccoontail, who had lived his life with only this cat as his friend. Lightning struck again, lighting up his face. Anyone watching should have seen horror, sadness, rage. They would have seen a twisted version of adrenaline, excitement...achievement. He felt all this; he was finally leader! Finally, victory's adrenaline could flood through him...but still, the sadness ate away at his victory, and soon he was bringing back the body with eyes blurred with tears. As he went to the Moonpool to receive his nine lives, he almost backed away from the sparkling lake. He almost went back home to lie about his victory. He thought he was unworthy towards StarClan for thinking of victory when his friend perished, and he almost turned his back on his ancestors. But, as he forced himself to touch his nose to the pool of stars, his journey through the starry fields began. He met many that he did and did not know, from cats of legends to Owlstar himself, who pronounced him Raccoonstar, and sent his paws back home. He emerged from his new den the next morning with his eyes sparkling with happiness, and an inner pessimism about the cold morning.
present day
And so here he is now, living every day just one moment at a time. He still retains most of his warrior, apprentice, and even some kit personality traits, and he keeps his secrets very hidden. Nothing can breach him. For if they did, it would be a hollow victory, no?
RP EXAMPLE:
You remember the instructions given to you in your dream. It was all so clear; it had to be real. You replay the dream's voice again in your mind, just to make sure you have not forgotten it.
A legend; created long ago by an unknown being in an unknown land; has this story written upon it. It is titled in a language unknown and long forgotten, but the rest is visible to all who see it. This is what you would find if you chanced upon its long lost and almost forgotten writing.
You have been searching years for this. You think you might have found it, after all of this time. You see a giant slab of rock coated in dust. You wipe the dust away, and see the legend you were destined to see. The dream voice in your head begins speaking again, tuning in to the words on the stone.
"Long ago, when the sun god Ra ruled benevolently over all the lands, he and the dark god Apep were opposites, but not enemies. For generations, Ra had been content with ruling the sun and getting the respect of the people, and Apep had been content with keeping the quiet life of ruling the darkness and living in shadows. Apep never saw the surface, and was believed to be gone by most of the beings of the land. Even the almighty Ra forgot his name and dishonored him by forgetting his unmistakable presence.
This enraged Apep. He stirred within the confines of his underworld lair, and rose to the surface to punish Ra for forgetting his name. He wreaked havoc among the beings; wrecking their land in vengeful violence and destroying whole villages in one strike. The people prayed to Ra, and Ra came forth to halt Apep's evil.
Ra came down upon the land bathed in light, which the snake Apep hated. Ra asked his opposite why he was attacking the world, and Apep hissed back his reason. Ra tried to console Apep, but he was too full of hatred for the generations of beings who had forgotten him. He struck out at Ra, and the sun dimmed at the dark blow. Ra fought back, with godly weapons, and the war began.
Each had advantages and disadvantages. Ra, being the god of gods, had immense strength. Apep, being the god of shadows, had immense speed. At night, when the sun left the sky, Apep had won the battle, and reigned supreme, giving horrible nightmares to the sleeping beings below. When the sun resumed its position in the sky, Ra gained his strength again, and the battle raged on. Sometimes, Apep would overpower Ra even in the daylight, and the sun would be completely overshadowed. Ra got his strength back quickly under these circumstances, and so these overshadows of the sun only lasted for a few minutes. Both were powerful, and both were fighting to kill.
The battle lasted a year. Winter passed, with the beings below frozen and scared, when the sun had so little time to be up before Apep's dark night reigned again. Summer passed, with the beings sweltering hot and too tired to pray, while Apep's short, but deadly, nights froze them in their sleep. Finally, an outcome came.
Both gods were tired from the long fight, but both had the determination to call a winner. When the weather was mild, and both gods were equal, on the spring equinox, Ra had an idea. Apep, unaware of this idea, also came up with a plan, believing that Ra would slay him eventually. With both plans in mind, Ra transformed into a godly cat, and slew Apep by biting off his head. The beings below cheered.
Life returned to normal for the beings. Ra went back to his godly kingdom, and Apep's body disintegrated into black smoke. However, Apep still lived. His deadly plot was in motion.
Apep would wait, for however many eons it took, for Ra to take a mortal form as a cat, and then, he would strike, taking his form of a lethal snake, and kill every cat in the land until one of their deaths caused the sun to be overshadowed. Then, finally, no one would forget his name, and he would reign supreme forever.
And so he rests in an eternal slumber, waiting for his chance to rule once more."
The voice continues, even after the legend of Ra and Apep has been finished.
And there, the legend ends. With a warning to all who wish to live in the light of Ra, and stay out of the demonic darkness of Apep. Hold this warning dear to you; when he rises once more, it will be all you have. But until then, darkness has lost to the light, and the sun still shines.
You notice a few more marks are scratched into the surface, as if by a lethal sharp object. Your dream's voice speaks for them too.
Until then, dear reader. Until then...
The voice morphs into a deafening hissing. Darkness engulfs the whole of the world as you know it, and you see no more.
