GoldenClan camp was busy as usual; warriors were going in and out, either returning from patrols or going out on one. Some warriors were lounging around sharing tongues, others were going into the warrior’s den, ready for some sleep surely. Those were just the warriors who had either returned, or had nothing to do. Some left the camp, but those who stayed had nothing to do, really. The small brown tabby didn’t have anything to do either; she had already finished her apprentice duties. So, instead of just lazing around, Sandpaw decided to go out for a bit. Not too far though; she wouldn’t want to get stuck at another border like last time. Thank StarClan Eaglestar had found her, or she would’ve been lost for a while.
The only problem with her mentor and leader finding her though, was that he saw her failed attempt to try and catch a squirrel. She’d get the hang of it sooner or later. |
‘Yeah, that’s highly unlikely.’ Sandpaw ignored the dubbed Kinktail voice in her head; and continued on her trek outside camp. However, as she got out, she wandered a little too close to a thorn bush; and a thorn lodged itself in her paw. With a small whine, the new apprentice hobbled her way back to camp, cursing her luck. Of course it’d happen to her.
However, as she entered the camp, Sandpaw brightened up; she would have a reason to visit Pebblepaw then. Pebblepaw; the medicine cat apprentice was her best friend; both were the same age, so it made sense. She was sort of down when she found out Pebblepaw was going to be a medicine cat apprentice, Sandpaw had hoped they could train together was apprentices and then become warriors together. However, she was fine with it; if Pebblepaw liked it, then that must mean something. Pebblepaw was certainly better at it than she knew she would have been.
As she hobbled towards the medicine cat den, Sandpaw tried to look inside, to try and find her friend, but she almost fell over in doing so. ‘Ok, so don’t lean over with only one paw.’ Sandpaw continued on; the thorn stuck deeply in her pad; and she hissed in pain. “Pebblepaw? You in there?”[ Word Count ] 377 [ Tagged ] Pebblepaw/Rhapsie [ Notes ] Sorry for the shortness. [/blockquote]

You in there?” Worriedly, she looked over her shoulder to see the face of Sandpaw, one of her closest and dearest friends. "Here I am, Sandpaw. What's the problem?" If Finchclaw had been around at the time, he probably would've bustled to her side and begun to treat her before Pebblepaw could even take a step, but he was currently gathering some more herbs, so she had been left to watch the den and treat anyone who came by needing assistance. With this in mind, the apprentice had hoped that nobody would be struck down with serious illness or injury whilst Finchclaw wasn't around, otherwise Pebblepaw would be left to handle it, and she was only six moons old for Starclan's sake! But as the seal point apprentice approached her friend, she could see that it wasn't too serious, however the sandy pelted she-cat was hobbling and holding what seemed to be her wounded paw a little off the ground.
She motioned her friend in with a wave of the paw, before going to the back of the den to gather up some herbs she reckoned she would need. Turning around, she padded over to the moss nest nearest to the entrance of the den and planted her rump down on the ground, curling her tail around her dark brown paws as she watched Sandpaw with bright blue eyes, wide and curious. She peered at her friend's paw and noted that the other apprentice had trodden on a thorn. The pad looked rather swollen and tender, and a little bit of blood was beginning to drip from the wound. Of course, she wouldn't be able to help her until she lay down and let her treat her, which of course she would. Sandpaw wouldn't exactly refuse medical treatment, and besides, she'd come here of her own accord, to seek her out. Pebblepaw smiled gently. "So, it looks like you trod on a thorn or something. Looks pretty swollen to me, you'll want that taken out as soon as possible, Sandy. Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." She smiled again, and waited her pale pelted friend to say or do something.

"Here I am, Sandpaw. What’s the problem?" Sandpaw smiled almost sheepishly as she saw her friend. It was a clumsy mistake, really; it only showed how un-ready she was for being apprenticed. After all, how many warriors or even apprentices have stepped on a thorn? None that she knew; or perhaps they just wouldn’t admit it. Still; such a rookie mistake, she should’ve known better than to. "Um, well, you see…" she began, unsure of how to say it without being embarrassed. No apprentice had come in with a thorn stuck in their paw before; she was probably the first…perhaps she should’ve gotten it out herself…but how would she have done that? Hobbling forward, Sandpaw just sat in front of her friend, keeping her eyes on the ground; as if concentrating to not fall over.
How lame was she? Stepping on a thorn and unable to get it out herself, pathetic. 'Finally, we agree on something. That was pathetic.' the evil voice laughed; as if mocking her. Sandpaw just kept her eyes on the ground, ashamed to have even got in the situation. She was just wasting Pebblepaw’s time; a medicine cat apprentice probably had better things to do than attend to a lame apprentice who couldn’t watch where she was going. "Sorry if I‘m wasting your time, Pebble…but could you get it out soon? It hurts…" she murmured, still looking at the ground. However, as she heard Pebblepaw go back to the den, Sandpaw just sat near the entrance, but still in the den, and waited for her to return. Had it been anyone else; the small sandy tabby would’ve thought they’d abandoned her, and left her to take care of it herself. However, since she know Pebblepaw, Sandpaw knew the she-cat wouldn’t leave her like that. One reason why they were such good friends.'I wouldn’t be so sure of that. Who’d want to willingly be friends with a pathetic little kit like you?' Sandpaw glanced at Pebblepaw, afraid she was just being kind because she simply couldn’t be mean. That couldn’t have been it, they were true friends. 'Yeah, we’re friends. True, good, close friends.' She reassured herself; sticking out her paw for Pebblepaw to look at. It was worse than she thought; blood was dripping from it, but not too much; and it was swollen and it still hurt. "So, it looks like you trod on a thorn or something. Looks pretty swollen to me, you’ll want that taken out as soon as possible, Sandy. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing." Sandpaw smiled back at the she-cat; she would trust Pebblepaw even if the apprentice wasn’t exactly sure of what she was doing. Sandpaw had faith in her friend. "I know you do Pebblepaw; thanks."
She then glanced around; being a medicine cat apprentice must’ve been so much different than being a regular apprentice. So, to avoid any silences that might be awkward, Sandpaw, only with Pebblepaw, began the conversation. "How’s apprenticeship going so far?"[ Word Count ] 497 [ Tagged ] Rhapsie/Pebblepaw [ Notes ] Nope, not at all; thanks Rhaps! P.S. - 08/04: Happy Birthday. <3
