Badgerkit couldn't believe how far she was from camp. She hadn't intended to walk this far and she couldn't remember the way back. The brown and white she-kit looked around her green eyes wide with confusion. Where was she now? She kept padding over the grassy ground sniffing. Which way was camp? She thought frantically. In a case like this a kit would be calling for her parents, but Badgerkit's father had disappeared from her life and she'd had absolutely no connection with him.
Her mother had stayed to take care of her, but their relationship was terrible. Her mother had thought she was a mistake. She'd heard her mother say so herself. Through her mind Badgerkit wasn't aware that she was getting closer to a rabbit hiding among the grass. All of a sudden something blew past her at an amazing speed. The sound of large thumping feet terrified her and sent her into a panic. Of course the rabbit was as scared as the kit when it heard her earsplitting yowl of terror.
Then she was running. She didn't know what she was running from, but she knew she had to get away. The hill suddenly dropped at a steep incline sending her tumbling down head over paws. She heard the loud roaring of the gorge, but she'd never been out of camp. How could she know what the sound was? Then the ground suddenly wasn't there anymore and the roaring sound was loud in her tiny ears. In a quick reflexive action she unsheathed her claws digging them in the nearest thing she could grasp.
She felt her claws dig into the ground, but her back claws were dangling off of something. She forced herself to look down to see how long the fall was from here. When she looked down she suddenly felt sick. The only thing she saw was white. White foaming water bellow her that seemed to want to suck her in. She dug her claws in tighter until it hurt her toes and her eyes moistened as she closed them. She let out a terrified wail afraid to move an inch.

After all, she had spent her morning rather wisely, going out on patrol a little after dawn and then bringing some mice for the fresh kill pile. So after a brief nap, Slatestripe had decided to go for a walk and maybe reinforce the borders a little. Treading down the path that led from the clearing through the forest, she wasn't quite sure where she would end up, but she didn't mind, as she didn't have a specific destination in mind. Brown eyes scanned her surroundings as she moved forward, her tail flicking out behind her like a silver plume. She found herself weaving through trees and treading through bushes for the next ten minutes, until a rather familiar scent hit her nostrils. At first, she was confused, and then panic coursed through her body as she hurried towards the source of the aroma, because she'd identified the other as Badgerkit, who certainly shouldn't be out of camp, and the fact that she smelt as if she was unaccompanied made it even more worrying.
A terrified cry cut through the silence like a knife, and Slatestripe felt sick to the stomach, now breaking out into a full sprint.
Her heart raced as her wide eyes fell on the black and white kit who was dangling from the edge of the gorge, and without a second thought, the grey pelted warrior leapt forward, grabbed the kit by the scruff of the neck and hauled her to safety. Carrying her a few good foxlengths away, she planted the kit down in front of her and sat beside her, curling her tail around the black and white ball of fluff and swathed a reassuring tongue over Badgerkit's forehead. Once she'd given the kit a few moments to calm down, Slatestripe sternly looked down at the young feline. "Badgerkit, what in StarClan's name... what possessed you to come out here on your own! Don't you know that kits aren't supposed to leave the camp, especially unattended! You could of fallen, and drowned! Everyone will be so worried..." She sighed in exasperation and huddled closer to the young kit, a strong maternal instinct kicking in as she protectively watched over the black and white HillClanner, waiting for her to say or do something.

Badgerkit pricked her ears as she heard a voice over the roaring of the gorge. She felt teeth in her scruff pulling her up. Badgerkit could hear the gorge getting farther and farther away. The absence of the terrible roaring noise seemed to calm the she-kit then there was solid ground under her paws again. She panted as she laid her head on the ground. When she was on the ground again she was digging her claws into the soil. She clung for dear life to the ground with her claws her eyes still shut tight. Her body trembled as she laid on the ground. She'd never felt so relieved to be on solid ground again. Though she needed a moment to calm down. She could feel her heart racing in her chest. Badgerkit still felt slightly sick as she remembered looking down into the white water. She realized that another cat had rescued her, but she could barely get out a thank you.
"Badgerkit, what in StarClan's name... what possessed you to come out here on your own! Don't you know that kits aren't supposed to leave the camp, especially unattended! You could of fallen, and drowned! Everyone will be so worried..."
She heared a soft voice in her small ears asking ger if she was alright or was it a disciplne? She slowly opened her bright green eyes staring back at the she-cat. She felt a tail resting on her flank as she lifted her head slowly and nodded to the warrior. Badgerkit wasn't ready to use her voice yet. She laid her head down again.
But the words had surrounded her, Everyone will be so worried......But mommy won't. She hates my guts. She had frowned as she had shoke her head to herself as she had looked at her paws. I wished she just die, like my brother did. She gave out a small whine as she had looked at the she-cat again. What if she tells ma? What if she.... Her vision was getting bury from her tears.

A large silhouette seemed to appear out of the shadows, as it slowly neared the unsuspecting mouse. Then, as if it knew of the hunt, a wail came from out the trees, from the clearing of the gorge. It all broke into utter chaos right afterwards; the mouse, frightened by the wail made way to scramble back home, as did other prey around. The large hunter had not taken any notice of the wail, cursing his horrible luck, when suddenly a memory came to him. The wail was familiar; not just familiar it belonged to one of the kits!
Breaking out of the sulky attitude, the large gray apprentice turned towards the sound and ran as fast as his large paws could carry him. As soon as he reached the gorge, however, he was relieved to find another warrior, already putting the kit down--Badgerkit if he remembered correctly--and the apprentice slowed his pace to a walk. Wolfpaw then padded over towards the warrior who saved Badgerkit--Slatestripe--and Badgerkit herself. He had gotten close enough to hear the warrior fussing over Badgerkit and felt some sadness. "Badgerkit, what in StarClan's name... what possessed you to come out here on your own! Don't you know that kits aren't supposed to leave the camp, especially unattended! You could of fallen, and drowned! Everyone will be so worried..." Sure, Leafwing cared for him, but she never showed to be as motherly to them as to her own kits. It wasn’t the same, he knew. Seeing Slatestripe act motherly made him remember Fernkit; how she would’ve gotten along so well with Slatestripe.
Shaking the past from his thoughts, as he usually had to do, the apprentice padded over to the two she-cats.

"At least she’s fine now, thanks to you, Slatestripe. I apologize for not noticing her sooner; I was nearby, there--" his voice was devoid of any emotion--simply because he didn’t know how to express it-- and he pointed to the spot her was previously at with his tail, “and I didn’t realize Badgerkit was out here.” it may have not been his fault at all; but he needed something to keep his mind from wandering back to Fernkit. One of the reasons why he was hunting. To just get away from it all. And taking the blame for it would be a very good way; they’d keep him on apprentice duties for days; he wouldn’t have the chance to think about her, or Marshtail, or Leafwing and Flowerpelt.
He glanced at Badgerkit once, unsure of what to do or say to make the kit feel better. "Perhaps we should bring her to Brightflower..." he paused, unsure of what else to say. These types of things were never his forte. [ Word Count ] 452 [ Tagged ] Badgerkit/Lost & Rhapsie/Slatestripe & Open [ Notes ] Hope you don’t mind me and my tough/rough/un-gentle Wolfpaw joining.

Badgerkit had turned her small black and white head to face a grey apprentice. Her eyes had widen as she remembered the apprentice, 'Wolfpaw..' She said as she had blinked and looked at her paws. "At least she’s fine now, thanks to you, Slatestripe. I apologize for not noticing her sooner; I was nearby, there--" He said as she looked at Slatestripe. The kit had b linked as she had nodded. 'Im fine, im very fine. ' She said to herself.
Badgerkit had blinked as she wanted to say something but she didn't as the tom cat had spoken. “and I didn’t realize Badgerkit was out here.” He said as went into thought as she had looked at Wolfpaw. She had shoke her head as she turned to see Slatestripe. She refused to talk as her eyes had closed as she had took her paw to her eyes as she wipes her tears away.
